on Settlement
This afternoon, 11 states announced
their intention to settle claims against big tobacco. As more consider
the offer, it is clear that many states will move forward with action this
week. Some states may hold off, determining that pursuing their cases will
yield greater public health provisions.
National leaders met this weekend and determined that a "one size
fits all" approach would not be effective for public health or ACS.
We will speak with one voice on those components of tobacco control which
much be addressed federally (like FDA), but each state must now determine
how best to move forward.
The NGRO will work with all states to chart a course which best effects
public health gains during the next phase of this campaign. To learn more
